The following is a series on Independent School District 549 retirees for the 2023 school year.
One way or another, Mike Meader had a way of delivering things. Whether it was for the United States Postal Service or if it was for Independent School District 549 where he served multiple roles, but most recently as the head of the A’La Carte store and supervisor of the Great Hall.
Meader announced his retirement from ISD 549 in December of 2022. Meader spent seven years with the district. He oversaw the Principal Work Study and the Student Union at the old Perham High School, before taking over the A’La Carte and Principal Work Study.
Meader said his favorite thing was the staff and the students he was able to interact and work with during his seven years with the district.
“Just enjoy it,” Meader said when asked about any advice for new staff members. “It’s a great group of people to work with at the Perham School District.”
Meader said some of his retirement plans have changed. He was hoping to spend some time on the lakes and the golf course. While the plans may have changed early with yard work and working a deck, he fully intends to return to the lake and the course in the near future.
Meader said this year’s seniors were a great group of kids and really made the day enjoyable. He said he enjoyed visiting with the students during their open hour.
“I really enjoyed working there and it was tough to retire to be honest,” Meader said. “But, not that tough.”
