The following is the fifth in a series on Independent School District 549 retirees for the 2022 school year.
For many years after sporting events, concerts, recitals and programs in the Hive at the Perham High School and the gymnasium at the Prairie Wind Middle School, Maurice LaCourse and Jeff Sweazy can be found tearing down and cleaning up after the fans have long departed following the conclusion of those events.
However, one of the duo is hanging it up. Affectionately known across the school district as “Mo,” LaCourse announced his retirement from Independent School District 549. LaCourse has spent 40 years with Perham Public Schools, many of them as Lead Cleaner at Perham High School.
LaCourse said some of his favorite memories of working for Perham Public Schools was setting up and cleaning up after many sporting events and other events with Jeff Sweazy. The duo have worked together ever since Sweazy started with the school district.
LaCourse said he is looking forward to riding some rails to visit some trails in Minnesota and other states in the United States.
When asked what advice he would give to new and/or young people in his profession. LaCourse was straight to the point. “Do not be so quick to leave the job,” LaCourse said.
