Along with a part time psychologist and a social worker, Prairie Wind has a full time counselor who provides both academic counseling and personal guidance. The building also has a student assistance team made up of teachers, administration, and the counselor who meet weekly to discuss possible interventions for students who are experiencing academic, social, and family difficulties.
All students study core courses in math, language arts, social studies/geography, science, and reading. In addition, students take classes in computer, wellness, health-PE, industrial technology (Project Lead the Way), music, physical education, Spanish, band, and choir.
PWMS serves approximately 500 students in grades 5-8.
Our team of over 50 teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, food services workers, and administrative staff all work with our students to achieve high academic and social standards as well as personal and community responsibility.
A wide variety of services are also offered to students with special needs. These students, who may be learning disabled, emotionally or behaviorally disordered, mild to moderately or moderately to severely mentally impaired, hearing impaired, or experiencing speech and language problems, are served by six special educators and ten paraprofessionals.
