Care for Children of Families of Emergency Workers
Under Governor Walz’s Executive Order 20-02, free school-age care for the children of emergency workers was outlined. The orders directed school districts to provide care to, at a minimum, district enrolled students aged 12 and under.
Emergency workers were defined under a Tier 1 and Tier 2 category. At this moment, we are equipped to handle both Tier 1 and Tier 2 families, however, should we reach a point where we can not staff the number of children, we would have to give priority to Tier 1 families. The categories are defined as such:
Tier 1: Healthcare Personnel, Full-time Emergency Medical Services personnel, Law Enforcement personnel, Firefighter personnel, Correctional Facility staff, Public Health personnel and Full-time Court Personnel
Tier 2: Educators, Child care workers, MnDOT employees, State and Local IT personnel, Substance Disorder Treatment personnel, Medical examiners, Activated National Guard, Water treatment/Wastewater personnel, Day-to-Day Operations for Gas and Electric Utilities, Food Distribution workers, Public Works employees, Solid Waste Management employees, Infectious and Hazardous Waste Management personnel, Shelter staff and Outreach workers, and Telecommunication Network Operations employees.
Childcare will be provided at Heart of the Lakes Elementary from the hours of 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, available yet Thursday and Friday of this week, and Monday through Friday of next week. We ask that you please come in with your child on the first day to register them and provide the district with some information, including verification from your employer. This will help in our planning and staffing processes – please do NOT simply drop your student off at the front door.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Please send a water bottle, snack and appropriate clothing for outdoor activities.
