    Families, Students and Staff:

During the transition to distance learning for students in third through 12th grade, we will be providing childcare for Tier I essential families during that time. The childcare will begin on Nov. 30 and be housed out of the Prairie Wind Middle School.

Under guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education, school districts that elect to go to distance learning must provide childcare for school enrolled school age children age 12-and-under who are children of Tier I workers. In a two-parent household, both parents must be deemed Tier I essential and in a one parent household, the parent must be deemed Tier I essential.

School districts must provide transportation for students participating in school-age care for children of critical workers, in accordance with their local student transportation requirements.

Tier I industries are healthcare and public health, law enforcement, public safety and first responders, food and agriculture, judicial branch (essential services), National Guard (activated under a Governor Executive Order), Educators in Pre-K through grade 12 settings, school staff providing instruction or caring for children of critical workers and childcare and school-age care providers.

The district provided childcare will begin on Nov. 30 for students in third grade through sixth grade, beginning at 8:15 a.m. and ending at 3:15 p.m. Childcare for pre-k through sixth grade will begin on Monday, Jan. 4 with the hours of 8:15 a.m. until 3:15 p.m.

Meal service will be provided during the switch to distance learning. Meal pick up will take place at door No. 3 of the Perham High School beginning on Nov. 23. Meal service is for enrolled students in pre-K through 12th grade. Hours of operation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served at that time.

Included in this announcement are the childcare surveys the district sent out earlier this year as well as the detailed plan for essential childcare.
