As part of Perham-Dent’s COVID-19 Mitigation strategy, the district has BD Veritor Take Home tests for students, staff and contracted staff of ISD 549.
These tests help in the prevention of the spread of COVID-19. The BD Veritor At-Home COVID-19 test is an individual diagnostic, rapid antigen COVID-19 test recommended for symptomatic people that uses a nasal swab. Results are available within 15 minutes. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has purchased BD Veritor At-Home tests through funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The state is providing tests for students and staff at K-12 schools and children and staff at child care settings.
This test is packaged with two tests per box, so that serial testing can be performed. By testing more frequently, known as serial testing, COVID-19 may be detected more quickly, which helps reduce the spread of infection. Refer to the instructions for testing details: BD Veritor At-Home COVID-19 Test – Instructions for Use (www.fda.gov/media/151761/download).
The at-home test is recommended for children as young as 2 years old when samples are collected by an adult, and for all people ages 15 and older if they are collecting the sample by themselves.
The district has one BD Veritor Test per person in the district. If interested in receiving one of these At-Home Tests, please pick them up by Friday, Feb. 18 from your building’s health office. Leftover test kits will be available for use by students and families throughout the district.
Testing is one important strategy to slow the spread of COVID-19.
