After a year of designing and planning, Perham-Dent School District has reached a historic moment. The District will host a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of constructing the new Perham High School. The ceremony will recognize the community support that helped the $45 million referendum vote pass in November 2015, while also commemorating 100 years of the current Perham High School.
Please join us for the historic groundbreaking ceremony at 4pm on Wednesday, May 10 at the site of the future Perham High School Campus to launch the first phase of construction for the new school.
Students, staff, alumni, elected officials, and district and community leaders are expected to participate in the groundbreaking. Families, community members, and students are invited to join in on the celebration.
This historic groundbreaking not only marks a new era in education for the Perham area, but also a chance to look back on the rich tradition of the school. Perham High School has been an icon of the community for a century. We celebrate these 100 years along with paving a new path for our future. We look back on decades of successes while looking forward to setting a new foundation for years to come. This groundbreaking is not just about the building, but about celebrating the successes, memories, and traditions that have encompassed Perham High School for a hundred years.
To determine the needs of the school district, the School Board put together a task force to assess the need for a new high school, as well as improvements and needs of Prairie Wind Middle School and Heart of the Lakes Elementary. After months of deliberation and planning, the task force recommended the construction of a new high school along with additions to Heart of the Lakes Elementary School and improvements to Prairie Wind Middle School.
After passage of a referendum in November 2015, planning began on the new high school. We are proud to have put together a school that not only meets the needs of our students and instructors today, but also into the future. It allows for greater flexibility and functionality in classroom spaces, improvements in safety and security, as well as shared resources with the middle school. The relocation out to Coney Street brings all Perham-Dent Schools to the same campus. The high school project will cost $37,000,000 and will be completed prior to the start of the 2018-19 Academic School Year.
In the event of inclement weather, groundbreaking will be held in Prairie Wind Middle School Gymnasium. Please call 218.346.4503 to inquire. A monthly school board meeting will follow the groundbreaking ceremony in the Student Union of the current high school.
